from 299 reviewsI really like this Cobalt. High-end performance but not high-end price. I have the 8 wt and used it for coho, steelhead and chum. Unfortunately, I broke it on a 25 lb chum at the Hoodsport hatchery when the fish went berserk and charged at me. Now, this is the important part that people leave out of a review. The warranty work was the fastest I have ever experienced! I had a small collection of broken fly rods I had been waiting to send out for warranty work/replacement. I conducted a little experiment. I sent out a Redington, a Scott, an Okuma, and my broken Lamson. I live in WA. Lamson had my rod back to me within about two weeks. The Redington, 3 weeks. I am still waiting on the others, two months later!!! Now, back to the sweet stuff. Cast this rod with a little heavier line and it is magic. perfect for single-hand spey in the salt!! Believe it or not, for being such a stout rod, it has feel. pretty accurate to anything around 60' beyond that, you better be an accomplished caster to get everything out of this rod. That being said, it still delivers. Fighting fish is no problem. Mine hauled in over fifty chum over two seasons before it gave up its ghost on a giant chum (25# - the adipose fin was longer than my thumb and three fingers wide). Sent it out and got it back within 2 weeks. I will fish these Lamsons as I imagine they only get better. And the price gets you almost two for less than a Sage Ignitier. I'd put it head to head against my Scott Meridian any day. Almost as sensitive than the Meridian but certainly tougher, and blows away anything in this price point like a Redington Crux, Echo or TFO. Definitely give this rod consideration.

I bought the Series IV 3.5 reel and paired with my Scott Meridian 8 wt. I lined it with a Rio Outbound short WF/I and it was just this side of heaven. This reel has legit marked improvements over the last two series. The Lamson drag, as always, like buttah and you can lock it down without cranking the knob twenty revolutions. Just the right feel. It's almost mystifying how light this reel was and yet, it takes a beating. Easy to work on and maintain. I love the pop spool. Some reviewers hate it. If you familiarize yourself with it, it's perfect. Less buttons and holes mean no sand and crud. I thoroughly trash on this reel fishing for coho at zero dark thirty in saltwater and it looks like a nearly new reel. This specific finish, is different from all the others in the line. It glows and is an extremely attractive reel. Of all the Lamson reels, the Hard Alox Series IV is by far my favorite because I know it will simply work and it is the right combination of weight, power and aesthetics. I have used the 3.5 on My Scott Meridian 8 wt, My Scott L2H 11'6" 8 wt, and it is an almost perfect match for my 7 wt Beulah G2 Platinum. Tight lines. Matt

After fishing the radius, The action is suitable for all conditions. Whether you want to nymph, throw big and or smaller dries, plus can turn over streamers. It’s a work horse. Very pleased! Keep up the good work! Have enjoyed your products for many years!

Well, if you're going to test out a rod and want to see what it really can do...why not jump into the deep end
Golden dorado will give you everything you need to do know when you want to see what a new stick in your hands can deliver. Over the course of 6 days of fishing in Argentina for their national fish, the Velocity series from Lamson shined. For hours on end we were throwing big, gigantic streamer and topwater patterns on the 8wt model and made my arm feel like I had been casting a 5wt. The rod is fast, and throws line when asked. Additionally you're able to control the fish as best as possible and land them quickly
We changed river systems and then spent a great deal of time casting the 10wt model with everything from floating to full sinking lines, throwing anything including giant mice to fruit to muskie sized streamers. That style of fishing can ultimately be taxing, but the Velocity Series is far better than most, more expensive models that I have tried in the past. The highlight of my whole trip was watching my boat mate launch a cast into the Parana River then a giant take and explosion of water as my buddy fought and landed a 30 lb golden dorado that the guides dubbed "big momma" on the 10wt.

The only negative review of the Radius I have is that my other 6 weights are going to be collecting more dust. The Radius has a nice blend of finesse and power and I've used it nymphing #20s on 5x to throwing big dries with 2x. Overall it has been a high performing, versatile rod for a bargain. I look forward to getting my hands on the other weights!

I bought this reel a few months ago for steelhead fishing and couldnt be happier with how it has performed. Steelhead are powerful and unpredictable fish, and the silky smooth drag on the Remix HD is perfect for slowing those powerful runs without being so firm that they can easily pop off with a sudden run. Can't beat this reel if you are after big fish, especially for the price!

Since there is no reviews on this reel on here I felt obligated to write one. I got this Centerfire HD 8 home today, fit and finish is at good as it gets, the drag is amazing and smooth, it balance both two of my micro spey rods (10’7 & 11’6) perfectly. I was able to put 250 yards of 50lb SA XTS on it and a 390 grain SA spey lite scandi line on top of that, no problem! My nr 1 top reel that I have at home is my Einarsson Invictus 8/10 and no reel on the market had been able to match that one so far for years. But today when I got this reel in my hand, played around with it a little and tried it out, I can tell you this much, it does match the quality of my Einarsson Invictus reel!!! Lamson should be very proud of themself with the making of this reel, it is a masterpiece!!! Ty Lamson it was worth the 800 euro (with taxes) I had to pay for it here in sweden, Iam very happy with my purchase!!!!!!! /Fredde

I have 3 of these reels. They are absolutely top of the line- just like any lamson reel. You can’t deny quality

I have had the GURU for years and saw this model and figured I'd give them a try. I now have three and they really are one of the nicest reels around, especially for the price. In addition to being a great reel, the support from Lamson has also been fantastic. Had a slight issue with one of the spools and sent it back to Lamson and they repaired and send it back to me in under two weeks. This type of quality and service at this price point is why I keep coming back to Lamson.

While the buzz on these reels tends to focus on value, these reels are quite good. I've had mine for years now and its never had a problem. In fact, its been a sweet performing reel. I plan to buy a second this spring. My first came in the three pack and what a deal that is! Did I say how light it is? Its just right in weight for me. I'm a small stream guy and its perfect for that. I'd have no problem using it on big water. In other words, its very versatile.

It's frustrating and difficult to find full cage reels. I stumbled upon this one for great lakes steelhead - it's been amazing. It cannot be overstated how important the full cage is, especially when it's November, your fingers are cold, and you are kicking yourself for not using a full cage reel. This reel more than stood up against many large steelhead. A wonderful reel!

I really like the Lockdown function, never drop you reel in the water again and the casting action and feel is spot on. Finally great rod for a reasonable price.

I bought a -7+ liquid a little over a year ago. I put it on my 7WT which I used for smallmouth fishing during the summer months. I am lucky enough to be able to fish every day during the summer, and my favorite smallmouth spots are pretty rugged, so my liquid took a beating and passed with flying colors this past summer. I’ve never had a budget reel survive the summer before.
The drag is awesome. It doesn’t come loose like the other popular budget reels, and it played plenty of fiesty 20”+ smallies this summer.
While, I’m sure a higher end reel would out perform the liquid, this reel performs well enough that I can save that money for tying materials or food on trips.

I have been using Lamson reels for a long time, American made and solid drag system were the the two reasons I went with Lamson. I had a few old litespeed reels with good quality anodization. The anodization on the Remix and some of the lower price point Lamsons are not up to the mark. These reels scratch up even with very careful use.
The final straw was when I took the reel on a fishing trip and discovered that the spool was bent. It was so bad that the spool was coming off the reel body as I was fighting a big fish. We hiked in a long distance to fish this place. It was disappointing not to be able to enjoy the fruit of a long hike.
Not having a cage for some of the bigger Remix reels is irresponsible. The cast spools are very weak. A cage would give it more integrity.
I would hasitate to buy low to mid priced modern Lamson reels. I am sure their top end products are still pretty good.
A little more care about the quality of anodization and rethinking the strength of the cast spools on bigger size reels would be much appreciated.

I have fished Lamson Lightspeed reels for over 10 years at this point and have never been disappointed. I recently acquired a Lightspeed F5 in Fuego and it is terrific. Beautiful to look at and highly functional, it is a perfect compliment to any of my rods.
