I own the Litespeed, Speedster, Gurus, Remix, and Liquids, with extra spools. For me they are 100% dependable, rock solid, easy to use and the customer service is excellent if you ever need it. I needed a new handle on one reel one time and had it it two days. I work in a sporting goods store and sell more than a dozen brands of reels. I recommend Lamson to every customer, for every flyfishing application. Thanks very much LAMSON.
Thanks for spreading the word to your customers! We appreciate your support.
I could buy anything. I didn't want something to obsess over. I've had that. I'm finding that I'm falling in love with this reel. It's probably the best reel out there, hands down. It's for fishing. Don't have to worry about damaging it if I fall. Don't worry about where I place it so I won't scratch it. I won't add to other's positive comments on how well it works. It just does a great job.
If you're here looking for a really great reel for actual usage. You found it.
Well said and thanks for the review! the Guru S is a workhorse, glad your putting it to work.
This reel just works. It’s a workhorse and like it better than the lite speed. It’s the hammer you always wanted. Great design, solid, smooth, and great sound. The drag adjusts as described and fine tuning to the rod is easy. The drag makes the rod do all the work. It pressures fish into submission and is definitely My choice.
So impressed with this reel. Buttery smooth drag. The large, ergonomic drag knob allows for subtle tension adjustment in a broad range that makes this reel just as suited to fishing 6x and light wire hooks as it is to fighting large trout with big hooks and heavy tippet in obstacle-ridden waters. The pickup is excellent and lays the line down tightly and efficiently with a quick spin of the spool. Has a nice purr to it as well. The arbor is generously sized for a 4/5/6 reel and has what I would call perfect line capacity. I was able to fit exactly 100 yards of 20lb micron backing and a 6wt WF floating line with ease, filling out the spool completely without any line crowding under the frame. Oh, and workhorse that it is, this reel is beautifully built with an appealing olive/bronze color and graceful machining. I have been a trout guide for 8 years and have always used the same equipment for guiding as for my own fishing... this year I decided to treat myself with a reel that is primarily for my own use, and I am thrilled that I chose the Guru S -5+. Can't go wrong with this model... I'll probably wind up ordering a couple more. Thanks to all the designers and machinists at Lamson for creating a reel that checks all the boxes!!
I am a big Lamson fan. I have always liked the simplicity of their designs and operational efficiency. I have just purchased a Guru S 5+ for a new 5 weight rig I have put together.
The Guru seems to have morphed from an efficient but plain jane into an understated and quite elegant design. The functionality seems to have been enhanced with improved spool porting to aid the drying of backing following the inevitable dunking i regularly give my reels.
The simple elegance of the design and the lovely olive green anodized finish look far more appealing than many top end offerings that, frankly look over designed and a little bit tacky for my tastes.
A fine effort and please keep up the great work.
