Gun Control No, not that kind. But “hand cannon” might be a term that comes to mind when you’re on the flats with a Cobalt rod.
Think of your fly as a projectile, your line a powder charge, that Permit sliding by at 70 feet as a silhouette. Aim and fire.
Cobalt rods are built on a hyper-fast blank crafted to deliver blistering line speed and wind conquering loops, with enough flex in the tip and mid-section to allow you feel the action load but plenty of muscle down deep to pick up that 70 feet of line for a quick re-cast.
Based on our popular SS-Salt blanks with dialed hardware and proprietary Lockdown reel seat, Cobalt is our next evolution in saltwater performance.
Available in a full range of calibers.

JUST WOW!!

I wasn't expecting this 8wt rod to last through my last trip after being pulled into the mangroves with a very large Snook on the other end...much to my amazement, and with the rod nearly doubled over, I guided the fish out of the trouble, into open water, and eventually into my hands......My Cobalt rod is easy to cast in our windy conditions, light enough to not leave me arm weary, and beefy enough to extract the beasts I go after!!...WELL DONE WATERWORKS-LAMSON, you have a fine rod, here!!

Great Rod

I normally do not buy factory-made rods unless I need a backup or a second rod for a partner. However, the Cobalt is by far the best factory-made rod I have used. I recently bought a Cobalt that I paired with the Litespeed M for a second surf rod. The outfit is fantastic. It balances well, casts like a dream, easily picks up the line off the water and is one of the most accurate rods I have used. I will highly recommend these rods to my friends and fishing partners.

Thanks a ton! the Cobalt and LSM is a dream pair, I'm positive they will both serve you well.

Cobalt is a fantastic rod!

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I have to here. I just built a 9wt combo with a Cobalt rod, and G5 Litespeed reel. All I can say is WOW!! I never have been able to afford “high end rods”, but I have had the honor to cast a few. But the Cobalt takes the cake. First time for me a rod will cast where I want it. Like sniper accurate. Today was my first day out with it, and although I was chasing pike, the smallmouth bite was on! I landed a few fish, with one fat sally. I couldn’t be more pleased. Fast action, tight loops. And probably the most line I’ve ever had out (50-70 ft?), AND controllable. I need to work on the ol’ double haul a bit, but I love this rod. I will be replacing my other rods with this as time and money allows. To summarize, Waterworks-Lamson, BRAVO!

It doesn't carry the 'high end' price tag but it sure does cast that way! Stoked to hear that Cobalt rod is doing everything you need it to.

Great Rods

These rods have really impressed me. They are light, but have strength. Track great and are accurate. They also are forgiving when excitement temporarily blocks technique. The Cobalts are both casting and fishing rods which is a rare combo. Fit and finish are sharp and the new reel seat is another example of great design by Waterworks Lamson.

7wt.: Awesome streamer rod (trout and bass) with various sink tips from 10' to 25' (240 - 250 grain). Rod is so crisp it feels like an extension of your hand when you manipulate/strip the fly - unbelievable like that. Good lifting power, but the rod won't wear you out in a long day of casting rabbit pelts and cones attached to hooks. Will cast a floating line just fine too, for close up work, you'll appreciate a line that is a little heavier.

8wt. : Bigger streamer rod and general saltwater application rod (bones, redfish, even fresh water carp situations) and casts a floating line (redfish taper) well in that role. Fishes/casts an intermediate tip line like a dream Tracks well, feels responsive in both the cast and while fishing, has lifting power. Just a fine general purpose 8 wt.

9 wt. : Been using these for salmon and steelhead. They are lightweight nines, but don't sacrifice the lifting power as other modern day rods on the market do only to achieve good casting. These are sensitive, recover quick, generate line speed but are not clubs. I wouldn't hesitate using these in salt, just haven't had a chance to (yet). Or pike (yet).

Problem solving hybrid-grip

I have a pile of $500-$900 fly rods that are basically shot because the front of the full-wells cork grips are destroyed from saltwater fishing. The humid environment and thumb pressure from casting heavy flies, fly lines, and fighting big fish takes a toll on the cork. It's about time a high-quality rod now has addressed this problem. The Cobalt rods cast like a dream, and have the durability to be useful for many seasons to come.

Fish saver. Our breakout product in the fly fishing industry, years ago, we thought: “There’s got to be a better way to remove a delicately-tied fly from a hooked fish than the hoisting, clamping, and wrenching process now on display.” So we created a simply innovative tool capable of reducing fish mortality by eliminating netting and handling—then named it after our home-base of Ketchum, Idaho. This technique will preserve protective coatings and eliminate air exposure. The Ketchum Release® tool makes low-mortality release easy, plus allows you to retrieve your fly without damage. It even keeps your hands high and dry. The Ketchum Release® is available in three sizes:  Big Bug for hook sizes 6-10; Standard for sizes 12-16; and Midge for sizes 18-22.
