I have a Guru S 9+ reel used for saltwater fishing snook, jacks small Albies and Spanish mackerel.
The reel is bulletproof.
Great drag, low start up inertia and plenty of backing capacity.
The drag has plenty of stopping power.
The ergonomics are good and the reel performs the way you'd expect from Lamson.
I own Lamson reels from a 1.5 Vexsis, to a 9+ Guru S up to a Light speed 11+. They are all great reels.
You are putting that reel to work! Thanks for letting it know how its working with those fish that can really put a drag to the test.
It's frustrating and difficult to find full cage reels. I stumbled upon this one for great lakes steelhead - it's been amazing. It cannot be overstated how important the full cage is, especially when it's November, your fingers are cold, and you are kicking yourself for not using a full cage reel. This reel more than stood up against many large steelhead. A wonderful reel!
The HD frame can give you that little extra piece of mind to focus on the fish and not worry about your gear. Thanks for letting us know the reel is working out for you!
Added this to my Lansom reels recently (have Litespeeds, Speedsters and Remix in various sizes frpm 4-11 wt). Another great purchase. Solid reel, smooth mechanisms and the drag with infinite settings from light to full lock. What more do you need. Carries the line rated with loads of backing and winds back on evenly. ,achining tolerances are first class so never have any line nips between the spool and casing after changing spools, which is super easy to do. Yet agian delighted with another Lamson reel
I grabbed this fine reel on my way to Montana. I will be get one for my 7 weight switch rod for Washington steelhead with light gear. I’m confident it will handle the task.
I bought my first Guru to get into the streamer game. I almost exclusively wade for my fish and the smaller creeks in northern Michigan can get treacherous. This reel has seen lots of bushwhacking, stupidity, a learning curve and a few decent fish. It's beyond reliable and responsive through its 10th season. I like it so much I got the 3.5 for my 8wt river smallie setup. Keep at it - they're in there.
