I upgraded from a competitor's reel to the Litespeed to compliment my 6wt dry fly set up. I love the "weightless" large arbor format. The fast, smooth line retrieval is fantastic. This is my first Waterworks-Lamson reel but it will definitely not be my last. Actually already purchased a Remix for my son's 5 wt. The conversion is happening.
This reel is exceptional in every way... Particularly the cost, which is totally out of line. I own 6 older Litespeed reels and I love them! It breaks my heart the iconic Litespeed was redesigned. The older Litespeeds are in my opinion every bit as good and arguably better than this one is in every way, including visual appeal. If you can find them, older Litespeed reels (which are arguably better in every way) are over a $100 less than this new one is. However, this new Litespeed is lighter than the older Litespeed reels and Lamson claims they're "stronger", though I haven't put them to the test, the new Litespeed certainly doesn't feel as solid as the old ones do. I really like the whiskey color though... It is beautiful and it compliments the wood reel seat on my fly rod nicely. The whiskey color reel will also probably be a collectors item as well which is the only reason I dropped $500+ for this overpriced line holder.
This reel belongs on the water. It makes you want to use it. Great looks and perfect function.
If you're weighing your 3wt reel before you fish with it, then it's highly likely that you need to spend more time actually fishing.
Functional it´s the best Lamson Reel I got in my hands till now and the best pick in the creek rod class for me.
The 3+ is offered as the benchmark for retrieve rate per ounce with a weight of 3,10oz.
But in reality it´s 3,41oz. Strange how this can happend on one of the main selling Points of this reel !?
I contact the support, but no change on the webside.
Leaves me back with a very mixed feel on this reel.
Carsten, thank you very much for the feedback on the weights. The original weights published on our website are preproduction weights based on computer models and although in most cases they are pretty accurate, in this case they were clearly not. We've updated all of the LSF pre-production weights on the site to physical weights. Thank you for calling our attention to the issue.
