Light-year.The distance traveled by light in a single year; the time it takes for design to evolve to a next step. What can be said about larger but lighter, lighter but stronger? Of course it can be done. We’ve done it over and over again, but does there come a time when the bar can’t be raised? No, there are always improvements to be made, new ways of thinking, new materials, and processes to exploit. As we’ve said – the performance benchmark for a fly reel is retrieve rate per ounce. If you haven’t thought about it before, think about it now: there’s no downside to high retrieve rate other than extra weight. As an example, consider the 2021 Gen 6 Litespeed: CNC machined with material distributed artfully along critical load paths, stable and strong, so light you might forget it’s there, but beautiful enough to make you remember it is. The art of the fly reel derives from the science of the fly reel, but at the end of the day both art and science, when held in balance, serve to make us smile.
LSF – The LSF is the freshwater version of the new Litespeed. The chassis is based on the conical system found in our other reels with the addition of a click stop drag knob and a unique spring set that creates a linear progression of torque with very fine resolution at the light end of its range. LSF spool and frame architecture is super-arbor in scale for high retrieve, but spare and open to promote line drying and, of course, reduce weight.

I love my lite speed! It is my personal fly reel that I turn to when I’m not fishing my clients. It’s smooth reliable and lightweight to fish with. You will love it.

LAMSON LITESPEED LSF FRESH
I just purchased a new Lamson litespeed lsf fresh reel in a class -5+. It’s extremely good looking reel and super light weight! The drag seems very smooth although, I didn’t test it extensively yet. The only issue I noticed straight away is the drag regulation knob. It’s seems pretty awkward. Just to clarify, does the drag knob turns without any clicks or detents?

Cutthroat at LiteSpeed
I upgraded from a competitor's reel to the Litespeed to compliment my 6wt dry fly set up. I love the "weightless" large arbor format. The fast, smooth line retrieval is fantastic. This is my first Waterworks-Lamson reel but it will definitely not be my last. Actually already purchased a Remix for my son's 5 wt. The conversion is happening.
Fish saver. Our breakout product in the fly fishing industry, years ago, we thought: “There’s got to be a better way to remove a delicately-tied fly from a hooked fish than the hoisting, clamping, and wrenching process now on display.” So we created a simply innovative tool capable of reducing fish mortality by eliminating netting and handling—then named it after our home-base of Ketchum, Idaho. This technique will preserve protective coatings and eliminate air exposure. The Ketchum Release® tool makes low-mortality release easy, plus allows you to retrieve your fly without damage. It even keeps your hands high and dry. The Ketchum Release® is available in three sizes: Big Bug for hook sizes 6-10; Standard for sizes 12-16; and Midge for sizes 18-22.
