Finally found what I've been looking for

Bought the LQ Max 8. Its exactly what I've been wanting for the briny. Fast retrieve large arbour, narrow spool, wicked drag and it looks cool as. All at a very reasonable price. Thank you Lamson.

Thank you! The LQ Max is an awesome new addition to our line up. We appreciate you letting us know what you think.

Good for salt and freshwater

8 balances nicely on my 7 wt velocity rod. Already used it for streamer fishing for big browns on a local river. Drag is easily adjustable and I like the sound both going out and reeling in. I am planning on using this outfit for steelhead in OR and ID, as well as light saltwater in Cancun ( in the lagoon). I think it will work well for baby tarpon and snook. Lamson is my favorite rod and reel company. I wish you would make 2 handed rods and heavier blue water rods.

Thanks for letting us know what you are looking for from us! Ill pass the word along. Hope that trip is fantastic for you and Liquid Max will be ready to dance with those baby tarpon.

Spool removal?

So it appears that the spool does not pop off like my other Lamson reels. It takes a special tool?
Which way does it turn? Right to tighten?

The Liquid Max reels use a thumb screw to keep the spool in place. On the spool side of the reel you will see a round disc with raised ridges in the center. Hold onto the spool and turn lefty loosy and it should unthread, allowing you to remove the spool. If its on tight use your shirt or a rubber pad for more grip. Once its loose it will be good to go! If none of that is working shoot an email to customersupport@lamsonflyfishing.com and we can get a tool in the mail for you.

hmmmm........
Beautiful, but too heavy

Had high hopes for this reel; price, finish and design. However the 7/8 weighs in at 8oz naked and is way too heavy for my 8wt. Helios. Would have loved the quick retrieval rate this posses.

Thanks for letting us know! Sounds like you should check out our Litespeed M, its crazy light. The Liquid Max is built to provide a reliable, strong drag with really large arbors to help fight even the fastest fish. Using a cast construction helped us keep the reel super affordable and really durable.

Very Impressive!

Got the 10wt Max in Cadet as a late Christmas present for myself from The Fly Trap in Rockport TX, many thanks to Senor Fowler! The pictures you see online really don't do it justice, and this beauty is a beast!! Not super heavy but it's solid, balances my Bandit out well! I was most impressed with the drag on this thing, super smooth with the power to shut a fish down! Can't wait to get a big Texas Jack on this thing! Some people say "Tight Lines" but I prefer "Screaming Drags" I will most likely have every size of this in the near future!

Screaming drags back at ya! Not super heavy at all and they are a home run in all sizes. Send us some pictures from the water!

Fish saver. Our breakout product in the fly fishing industry, years ago, we thought: “There’s got to be a better way to remove a delicately-tied fly from a hooked fish than the hoisting, clamping, and wrenching process now on display.” So we created a simply innovative tool capable of reducing fish mortality by eliminating netting and handling—then named it after our home-base of Ketchum, Idaho. This technique will preserve protective coatings and eliminate air exposure. The Ketchum Release® tool makes low-mortality release easy, plus allows you to retrieve your fly without damage. It even keeps your hands high and dry. The Ketchum Release® is available in three sizes:  Big Bug for hook sizes 6-10; Standard for sizes 12-16; and Midge for sizes 18-22.
