Liquid Fly Fishing Reel

(6 customer reviews)

Liquid courage. Let’s face it, die-cast reels are intended to be low-cost alternatives to machined reels, right? Imported. Heavier. Easier to damage. Plain Jane. Well . . . not anymore. When creating Liquid, we focused purely on the virtues and advantages a pressure-cast process can offer. Structurally, you can do things with casting that you can’t machine: Full-radiused compound curves. Near zero-radius inside corners. And for a precision fit and finish, we even go back and machine the cast part in critical areas—amplifying the best aspects of both worlds. We pushed back on other boundaries as well. How much of a reel at this cost can we make here in the US.? Quite a lot, as it turns out. It’s a good mix, too. Liquid’s high-quality castings are imported, but the components critical to the drag system are CNC-machined in the US. Liquid reels are assembled in Boise alongside our highest-priced reels. No other $100 reel can boast this much US content and quality oversight.

Available in Smoke and Vapor.

Great value in a quality reel. The 3.5 balances nicely with my 8 wt rod. Drag has some startup hiccups but hoping it will smooth out with usage. Only have 2 days on it so far.

I have the Liquid 1.5 on an echo base 8ft 4wt rod and its just an awesome set up for the smaller rivers in the Co rockies. It’s pretty light and easy to pack into almost anywhere plus it’s a little beast. Most of the fish I’m catching I can pull in, but when I accidentally hook one that makes it to the reel on a 7 or 8x tippet I can trust this drag system to not break my line.

The lamson liquid reel is a nice reel. It has a nice smooth feel to it. When you have a fish on it makes it easier on you when you are trying to reel it in. It enables you to get rid of the slackline easily and start focusing on the fish.
It is a very durable reel I have tortured it with freezing cold water, rocks, Stumps and branches and it stays in great working condition. It also make back casting and roll casting better and easier to do it right. I have notice with this reel my presentation was better than before. It is lightweight so those long fishing days of back casting and mending make it less of a workout. This means longer fishing trips and your not as tired when your done.

First time out with a 3.5 and the reel handle fell off on the first Alaskan Coho I hooked up on.

Didn’t use the other reels in the 3-pack for fear of them failing too. The reel handle is held in place by a Allen screw so that’s just not something I had in the Alaskan wilderness.

Can’t comment on the drag since I had to hand line the salmon in.

I’ve used high end reels but I wanted to upgrade to a larger arbor for easier retrieval since I have been fishing the roaring fork regularly. I got it at my local fly shop (Alpine Anglers). I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I did my share of research. I like that this reel is made in the USA other than the die cast. I’ve used it this winter quite a bit in freezing conditions and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. The drag is concisely adjustable (even with fish on). I honestly can’t believe how great this reel is for only $100. I would buy another without hesitation.
